Leadership Character And Ethics Matter Written By R....

When asked to conduct a review of a book pertaining to leadership, I immediately chose Inspiring Leadership Character and Ethics Matter written by R. Stewart Fisher and Perry J. Martini. This book suggested on the United States Navy’s Recommended Reading List (The Blue Jacket s Manual , 2015) in addition to multiple universities including Regent University. The focus of this book is based on one basic principle: doing the right thing and making the right leadership decisions based on the character of that leader. Applying the lessons gathered within the Christian religion, Fisher and Martini relate various leadership styles and qualities to scripture throughout The Bible. One quality that was highly emphasized throughout the book was the attribute of servant leadership. A servant leader is â€Å"the highest expression of the human spirit† (Fisher Martini , 2004, p. 151) emphasizing on the empowerment of followers to accomplish organizational goals (Lussier Achua, 2013, p. 345). Ultimately, a servant leader places the needs of others ahead of their own displaying empathy, kindness, honesty, humility and respect for others. Offering methods in becoming a servant leader, Fisher and Martini recommend the imitation of great leaders from the past (Fisher Martini, 2004, p. 143). An exemplary model for servant leadership is Jesus Christ sense He defined leadership in Matthew 20:26-28, â€Å"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first
